The ‘Queen’ of Indian television, Ekta Kapoor, debuted her first K-shows 25 years ago. The producer-director quickly became well-known for her series, such as Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. But over the course of the following 10 years, her saas-bahu serials evolved into content that defined culture, to the point where they still have an impact on Indian television. Some viewed the shows as regressive, even though many people connected to them made enormous profits. Furthermore, producer Pahlaj Nihalani has now publicly accused Ekta Kapoor of destroying the notion of Indian culture.

In a recent discussion on the YouTube channel Learn From The Legend, Pahlaj Nihalani accused Ekta Kapoor of depicting polygamy in her shows. For those who are unaware, polygamy is the practice of being married or having several partners at the same time. Additionally, he emphasized that women are frequently shown in these shows as getting married more than once.

He was cited as saying: “Ekta Kapoor, the great… I mean, men are not allowed to get married twice, but she gets women married three times… Our culture has been ruined. Earlier, erotic movies were made rarely; now there’s sex everywhere.”

Pahlaj Nihalani disclosed in the same interview that Bollywood is no longer producing films for the general public. Shah Rukh Khan, who starred in love movies like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, is now acting in action movies, he noted. Pahlaj went on to mention how the Mahabharata and Ramayana served as inspiration for movies like RRR and Kalki 2898 AD. He went on to say that these movies, which drew inspiration from ancient Indian mythology, were aimed for a broad audience. He was cited as saying:

“Films like RRR, they are fully based on Ramayana and Mahabharat, even in Kalki, the end was all about Mahabharat. People are taken in by Indian culture, but we are force-feeding people that one woman can get married to three men.

Pahlaj Nihalani also disclosed in the same conversation how performers would not meddle in a movie’s casting till the early 2000s. He revealed that Akshay Kumar was the first actor to place a casting-related condition on him. When the producer disclosed that they were filming Talaash in 2002, Akshay was certain that Kareena be paired opposite him.
