24 apps and websites with audacious, pornographic, and vulgar content have been blacklisted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Due to their promotion of soft pornographic content, many of them have refused access.
The protection of the dissemination of illegal content online via various websites and applications was the government’s pivotal decision. 24 websites that are suspected of harboring unlawful content have had their public access disabled by an official notice from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The Department of Legal Affairs (DoLA), MHA, MWCD, MeitY, industry associations FICCI and CII, and several specialists in the field of women’s and children’s rights were consulted before the government took action, according to reports in ANI.
ULLU, ALTT, Big Shots App, Desiflix, Boomex, Navarasa Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, Jalva App, Wow Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hitprime, Feneo, ShowX, Sol Talkies, Adda TV, HotX VIP, Hulchul App, MoodX, NeonX VIP, Fugi, Mojflix, and Triflicks are among the websites that the government has banned.
The banned apps allegedly breached multiple constitutional acts, such as Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986, Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Section 67 and 67A of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Priyanka Chaturvedi, a Shiv Sena UBT MP, recently posted on X (previously Twitter): “This is fantastic news.” Due to their content, Ullu and Alt Balaji in particular had been discussed and brought up in the Communication and IT standing committee. I’m glad @GoI_MeitY took note and completed the long-overdue task.
