March 14 marks the 60th birthday of Bollywood’s Perfectionist, Aamir Khan. PVR is planning a unique series of re-releases of his best films at the Cinema Ka Jaadugar: The Aamir Khan Film Festival to honor his inspirational and entertaining acting career. The festival, which is scheduled for March 14–27, will feature his films, including Dangal, Rang De Basanti, Dil Chahta Hai, Lagaan, and Taare Zameen Par. Aamir Khan became sentimental during the trailer’s release, recalling his early acting career. He told some fascinating stories about his failures and the lessons he learned that he still adheres to today.
Aamir stated in an interview with Javed Akhtar that he considers three factors before agreeing to a movie. “I consider three factors. 1) Script, Story, Screenplay, 2) Director, 3) Producer,” he added, elaborating on the significance of these elements. “The first requirement is that I must enjoy the story. Then, it should be a director whose work I enjoy,” Aamir said, adding that he doesn’t consider the director’s success because that depends on a number of variables. “I search for his aptitude. Regardless of his prior shortcomings, I will collaborate with someone if they have the capacity to generate quality work,” the actor-turned-producer disclosed.
When his first movie, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, came out and became a smash in 1988, Aamir Khan recalled how he learned this crucial lesson. “I got around 300-400 offers,” he said. People used to sign many films back then. Every actor has between 40 and 50 films. Actually, according to trade publications, Anil Kapoor had the fewest films—33.
Speaking about his personal experience, he stated that he signed nine to ten films. “I didn’t receive any film offers from the top directors whose work I liked and wanted to collaborate with. I made a decision based on the offers I received. He believed that his acting career was going well until he came to a realization while filming these movies that permanently altered his course. When the gunfire began, I realized my error. Even though I was working three shifts, I wasn’t happy. He admitted, “I used to go home and cry.”
