In a remarkable step towards environmental sustainability, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, alongside Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, spearheaded a significant tree plantation event in Mumbai. Organized by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in collaboration with The Tree Authority, Fit Mumbai, and Make Earth Green Again (MEGA) Foundation, the initiative saw the planting of 390 trees, with 300 Bahawa trees lining the Western Express Highway near Kherwadi.

Honoring Loved Ones Through Green Initiatives

This green endeavor is a heartfelt tribute by Akshay Kumar to his late parents, Hari Om Bhatia and Aruna Bhatia. Prominent figures such as Mumbai’s Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, Deputy Commissioner Vishvas Mote, and Dr. (Hon) Anusha Srinivasan Iyer of the MEGA Foundation joined him. The event highlighted the collective effort needed to combat climate change and foster greener urban environments.

This trend underscores the growing involvement of public figures in environmental causes.

The Strategic Choice of Bahawa Trees

The choice to plant Bahawa trees is strategic, given their resilience and ability to thrive in urban settings, ensuring higher survival rates and contributing to the city’s biodiversity. Such noble causes not only make a tangible impact on the environment but also encourage a much-needed digital detox, promoting physical activities among citizens—a key aspect of the Fit Mumbai Movement led by Shri Vishvas Mote from BMC.
