Nepal Unique Take on Makar Sankranti

For Brinda, Makar Sankranti celebrations in Nepal are rooted in simplicity. She shared, _“It’s not an elaborate affair back home, but it’s special in its own way. We make chikki, laddoos, and traditional dishes like dahi chura and gud chura.”_

She also described an endearing tradition for children in Nepal: _“Kids block roads with ropes and stop passersby, asking for money while chanting praises for Lord Shiva and Parvati. It’s such a unique and fun ritual.”_

First-Time Kite Flying and More: Brinda’s Festive Fun on Set

This year, Brinda discovered an entirely different side of Makar Sankranti while celebrating on the sets of Chhathi Maiyya Ki Bitiya.

“Flying kites isn’t a tradition in Nepal, so this was my first time flying one,”_ she revealed with excitement. _“It was so much fun! My co-stars taught me how to fly a kite, and even though my hands got sore, it was worth it.”

She also learned about new customs like offering bhog to God and serving food to Brahmins. The joyous shouts of _“Kai Po Che!”_ added to her experience:
_“When someone’s kite gets cut, everyone yells ‘Kai Po Che!’ I asked my co-actors what it meant, and they explained. It was such a delightful discovery.”_
