Bollywood star Deepika Padukone is slowly revealing the realities of parenting, including both its advantages and disadvantages, particularly for professional women. In September 2024, the actress and her spouse, Ranveer Singh, welcomed a daughter, Dua. Deepika recently spoke candidly on adjusting to life after having a child and the associated “mom guilt.”

During her recent appearance at the esteemed Forbes 30/50 Global Summit in Abu Dhabi, Deepika turned heads with her stunning golden ensemble and bold black boots. As she told the audience about her travels, she radiated elegance and glamour. Without hesitation, Deepika said when asked if becoming a mother has altered the way she selects her roles: “Yes, I think motherhood in itself has been so incredible that I’m sure somewhere, if not consciously, subconsciously it will influence the kind of movies and the roles that I choose to do moving forward. Having said that, I do believe that I’ve been pretty aware and conscious even before motherhood.”

However, even celebrities are people. Deepika opened out about a problem that many mothers face: juggling work and family obligations without feeling guilty about it. She is gradually returning to work, but as a new mother, she can’t help but feel bad. While explaining that she is still figuring things out, Deepika also asks other mothers for advice on how to deal with the emotion. She said, “I think where I’m at in my life right now is how do I manage my time as a mother, as a new mother, with getting back to–and I’m sure there are some incredible women here who can give me some wise, some wisdom, whatever, but to be able to manage my daughter and her life and getting back to work without feeling guilt. I think that is something I’m figuring out. I won’t say I am struggling with it, but I’m still figuring it out.”

Deepika and Ranveer embraced parenthood when they welcomed a baby girl on September 8, 2024. During Diwali, they revealed her name, Dua Padukone Singh, and shared how the name symbolised the answer to their prayers.

Ranveer, Deepika’s husband, showed his support for her by responding to her Instagram pictures with a lighthearted “phew!” and a heated face emoji.
