When a video of comedian Kunal Kamra mocking Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for switching sides went viral, Kamra found himself in hot water. When the comedian labeled the chief minister a “gaddar” during his performance at Mumbai’s Habitat Studio, Shiv Sena leaders became agitated. According to reports, eleven of them looted the location where the show was filmed. In the midst of the controversy, Kunal has now made his first remark, in which he claims to be brave despite the FIR being filed.
Following the comedian’s creation of a parody song set to the tune of Dil Toh Pagal Hai, Shiv Sena employees filed numerous formal complaints. It was a reference to Shinde’s Shiv Sena defection in 2022. In his opening remarks, Kunal addressed the crowd that determined Habitat should not remain. “An entertainment venue is just a platform,” he remarked. A venue hosting a variety of performances. Habitat (or any other location) has no authority or influence over his words or actions, and it is not accountable for his humor. Speaking to Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, and the media: “To the media faithfully reporting this circus: Remember that press freedom inIndia ranks at 159. What I said is exacrtly what Mr. Ajit Pawar (1st Deputy Cm) said about Mr. Eknath Shinde (2nd Deputy CM) I dont fear this mom and I will not be hiding under my bed, waiting for this to die down. Attacking a venue for a comedian’s words is as senseless as overturning a lorry carrying tomatoes, because you didn’t like the butter chicken you were served.”
In his remarks, Kunal also responded to the political figures who threatened to discipline him. He stated that, despite what the media of today would have us believe, the right to freedom of speech and expression is not just for swooning over the wealthy and powerful. “The incapacity of politicians to accept a joke at the expense of a powerful public figure does not change the nature of his right,” the comic criticized.
After a prolonged period of silence, Kamra revealed that it is legal to make fun of political figures and the circus that is the political system. He is still prepared to assist the police and courts, nevertheless, in any legal action that is brought against him. He said something like this: “But will the law be fairly and equally deployed against those who have decided that vandalism is the appropriate response to being offended by a joke? And against the unelected members of the BMC, who have arrived today at Habitat without prior notice and tore the place down with hammers?

In a mocking post, Kunal also stated that he would choose Elphinston Bridge or any other building in Mumbai that requires immediate demolition as the location for his next event. Additionally, he revealed that people who have been contacting him nonstop and releasing this number may have realized that all unknown calls end up in his voicemail, where they will hear the music they detest.
