Bollywood fans continue to be enchanted by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s blockbuster hit, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which celebrated its 26th successful anniversary a few weeks ago. Following the love triangle of “Nandini” (Aishwarya Rai), “Sameer” (Salman Khan), and “Vanraj” (Ajay Devgn), the classic movie has an ensemble cast. Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai did fell in love during the filming process, according to Smita Jaykar, who portrayed Aishwarya Rai’s on-screen mother.

Smita Jaykar, Aishwarya’s on-screen mother, has now confirmed what fans have always suspected—that Salman and Aishwarya’s smoldering chemistry in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was more than just acting. Jaykar recently spoke candidly with Filmymantra about the intense environment on set, which was difficult to ignore.

Regarding Aishwarya and Salman, the actress said, “Yes, they fell in love there. The affair flourished there. And it helped the film a lot. Both of them had those moony-moony eyes, and it was showing on their faces. That worked very well for the film.”

Renowned director Sanjay Leela Bhansali also discussed the long-rumored relationship between Salman and Aishwarya on June 18, 2025, the film’s 26th anniversary. Bhansali said in an interview with ETimes that love was in fact blossoming between the two, and the chemistry between the entire cast added to the shoot’s enchantment and satisfaction. He revealed:

Indeed, love was in the air. There was a great deal of affection among all of us, not just between them. Salman, Aishwarya, Vikram Gokhale, Smita Jayekar, Helen Aunty, and Zohra Sehgalji were all like one big family. I don’t believe I’ve ever had such a rewarding experience making a movie.
