Sunil Pal, renowned for his comedic prowess, recently voiced his discontent towards Munawar Faruqui, the stand-up comedian turned winner of Bigg Boss 17, in a recent interview. Pal, known for his controversial statements on social media, criticized modern comedy styles, citing Faruqui as an example.
In an interview with Times Now/ Telly Talk India, Sunil Pal expressed his views on contemporary comedy, particularly focusing on Munawar Faruqui, whom he referred to as “Kalank” or a stigma to the comedy industry. Pal questioned Faruqui’s classification as an artist, comparing him unfavorably to comedy legends like Umar Shaikh, Johnny Lever, K K Naikar, Moin Akhtar, and Kapil Sharma at his peak.
Pal emphasized his disbelief in Faruqui’s work, stating that genuine talent deserves appreciation and fandom. He criticized the audience as well, suggesting that comedians like Faruqui manipulate their listeners, leading them astray with their humor.
According to Pal, contemporary comedians promote a toxic culture rather than genuine comedy. He lamented the decline in quality, remarking, “An artist is born only once, and everyone else is a part of the crowd.”
Previously, Sunil Pal had also criticized Sunil Grover of The Great Indian Kapil Show for what he perceived as cheap humor, particularly Grover’s portrayal of female characters. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the show’s concept, calling for Kapil Sharma’s return to television.
Sunil Pal’s comedic journey began with his days on Laughter Challenge, where he captivated audiences with his stand-up routines. He transitioned to Bollywood, featuring in films like Bombay to Goa, alongside fellow comedians, including the late Raju Srivastav.
