Bollywood star Govinda is in the news once more, but this time it’s for his personal scandals rather than his movies or dancing abilities. His wife, Sunita, is rumored to be divorcing him, shocking fans. Sunita reportedly accused the actor of cruelty, desertion, and adultery, which sparked a flurry of rumors. After Sunita deleted Govinda’s last name from her social media accounts, it appeared as though their marriage had finally collapsed, bringing the situation into the public eye. However, Shashi, Govinda’s manager, stepped in to diffuse the dispute by refuting all of the accusations and providing an alternative version of the couple’s relationship.
Shashi defended the actor in an interview with Hindustan Times, calling the accusations “baseless.” “As is the case with any married couple,” he explained. “Govinda jaisa insaan kisi par haath nahin utha sakta, chilla nahin sakta toh yeh cruelty jaise claims aa kaha se rahe hain?” he said. He and I have collaborated extensively, and woh ab banai jaa rahi hai, insan bilkul aisa nahin hai jaisi picture unki. Sath mein kaam bhi kar rahe hai, jinn par dono miya biwi-sab mudde past ki kahaniya hai.”
Shashi added that even though the couple had moved on with their lives and even worked together professionally, a lot of the controversy stemmed from earlier incidents that the media was bringing up. Ironically, Shashi added that neither Govinda nor Sunita had been regularly appearing in court despite the fact that the matter was still pending. According to him, Govinda has mostly stayed away from hearings, while Sunita only made one appearance to file the petition.
Many of Govinda’s fans were relieved to hear this revelation, hoping that the couple’s disagreements were not as upsetting as they were depicted. However, Shashi’s version is not shared by everyone. One of the couple’s close friends acknowledged seeing the two get into violent altercations over the years. According to the insider, separation was never actually in the cards, even though their disputes occasionally became intense. “Yes, they (Govinda-Sunita) have their fights,” he stated. Yes, physical altercations. I have personally witnessed a few of these. However, they will never be permanently apart. Govinda moves to his other home after bouts and comes back once the tension subsides.

According to sources, Sunita filed for divorce under Section 13 of the Hindu Marriage Act in December 2024, citing infidelity, abuse, and abandonment. The matter is currently pending trial, and since June 2025, court-mandated counseling sessions have been in progress.
