An old video of actor Shah Rukh Khan saying he should have won the prize for the 2004 movie “Swades” has surfaced in the wake of the actor’s national award victory. Instead, Saif Ali Khan, his contemporary, won the prize for his role in the same-year release of “Hum Tum.”

The late 2000s video shows Khan standing next to ‘Hum Tum’ director Kunal Kohli at a function and stating, “See, main dil ka bahut acha hoon.” I am good by heart. Saari filmein achi lagti hain, saare hero ache lagti hain, saari heroine achi lagti hain, har cheez achi lagti hai. All movies, heroes, and heroines appeal to me. I’m a straightforward individual who enjoys everything, even your movies. All of them have been loved by me.

“‘Fanaa’ was very good,” he added. ‘Hum Tum’ was rather pleasant, in my opinion. I believe I should have won the National Award for “Hum Tum,” but that’s a different story.” His actor won the award. Then he chuckled cunningly, leaving Kohli feeling uncomfortable. Even Kohli grinned sheepishly as many laughed at the amusing comment.

In their reactions to the Reddit video, social media users mostly agreed with Khan’s viewpoint. “Agreed here, I can’t fathom how even ‘Hum Tum’ was considered for Saif to get the award,” one user commented.I enjoyed watching “Hum Tum,” but did I think it was good enough to earn the Saif National Award? Absolutely not, to be precise. “SRK was right here..(sic)” was another comment.

One user pointed out that SRK’s chances of winning a National Award that year may have been hampered by one of the jury members’ problems with “Swades.” “Unfortunately for him, TS Nagabharana was on the jury that year and openly questioned the integrity of ‘Swades’, even claiming it plagiarised his own film,” the statement continued.

Even though the 59-year-old did not receive a National Award, her performance in “Swades” is still praised.
