On Tuesday, the Mumbai police announced that they had reached out to YouTuber Samay Raina and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia to conduct an investigation over Allahbadia’s contentious remark during Raina’s “India’s Got Latent” program. The Indian Express has confirmed the development from a senior Mumbai police officer.

The statements were made by Allahbadia, who is well-known for his channel BeerBiceps, during a recent episode in which he was a guest along with other well-known content producers Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Makhija.

On Sunday, the video recordings of Allahabadia’s purportedly offensive and insensitive comments went viral on social media, sparking a national uproar. Additionally, it sparked discussions about regularizing content on over-the-top (OTT) platforms and abusing the right to free expression. Politicians, several organizations that support women’s and human rights, celebrities, artists, and the general public all voiced harsh disapproval of the program.

Numerous groups, attorneys, and political parties in Mumbai filed numerous complaints against the performers, the show’s organizer, and the platform that aired the performance, which was recorded at a Khar studio.

Two Mumbai attorneys, Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra, submitted a complaint, prompting the police to launch an investigation. The attorneys complained that offensive remarks were made about women, parents, and their body parts to the national and Maharashtra women’s commissions as well as the Mumbai police.

Nikhil Ruparel, a member of the National Students Union of India and the student wing of the Congress, also filed a complaint in the Bandra magistrate court, asking for a criminal probe into Allahabadia, Raina, and the show’s organizers.
