Marathi Stalwarts Lead the Way in Malayalam Film Achappa’s Album

A Malayalam film with a strong Marathi presence, Achappa’s Album, directed by Deepti Pillay Sivan, brings together respected actors like Mohan Agashe and Aadinath Kothare. The casting reflects a thoughtful decision rather than coincidence, showing how regional industries in India are increasingly coming together, where storytelling and performances matter more than language barriers. Deepti had a clear vision from the beginning—to collaborate with actors she truly admired and to shape a film that could emotionally connect with audiences across different regions, including both the South and Maharashtra.

For Mohan Agashe, the association with the film goes back to its early writing stage. Deepti has shared that while developing the character, she naturally pictured him in the role, and that idea stayed with her throughout the process.

Similarly, Aadinath Kothare was always a natural choice. Deepti had been following his work for years and felt confident early on that his acting style and sincerity would align well with the film’s tone.

Talking about her casting choices, Deepti Pillay Sivan explains that for her, emotions in storytelling go beyond language. She has long admired Mohan Agashe’s work and could only imagine him for the role while writing. The same applied to Aadinath, whose honesty as a performer made him stand out as her first choice. She believes actors like them are not limited to one industry—they bring depth to any story they are part of, which ultimately helps a film connect with a wider audience.

Produced by National Film Development Corporation of India, the film is set to release in theatres across the country on 24 April. It also features performances by Anjana Appukuttan, Priyanka Nair, and Sidhanshu Sanjeev Sivan.
